Self-love and self-center are two concepts that often confuse us. But they are extremely different. With one being a positive and healthy attitude towards oneself, while the other is a negative trait that can harm both oneself and others. Self-love is a concept that has gained increasing popularity in recent years, with many people recognizing the importance of taking care of themselves both physically and mentally. It involves a healthy focus on oneself that includes self-care, self-improvement, and setting healthy boundaries. Self-love also entails having a positive attitude towards oneself, such as self-acceptance, self-respect, and self-compassion. In contrast, self-center involves an excessive focus on oneself to the exclusion of others. It is characterized by negative attitudes towards others, such as lack of empathy, disregard for others' feelings, and a sense of entitlement. Self-centered individuals tend to prioritize their own desires and wants, often at the expense of others. They may lack the ability to consider others' perspectives, leading to strained relationships and negative consequences.
Self-love is not selfish. In fact, it allows individuals to show up as their best selves in their relationships with others, leading to positive outcomes for everyone involved. Self-center, on the other hand, can be harmful, leading to damaged relationships and negative consequences for both oneself and others. For me, saying clear "No" is still difficult. Is that self love or selfish ? I think it depends but confusing others by saying "Yes" is more harmful. Words are important. In Japan, we believe each word has spirit of its own. We call it "Kotodama". Practicing saying what we really mean with our kind heart is also a good way to love ourselves and others. Do not ever say anything to disgrace yourself ! We all deserve LOVE ! Let's start by loving ourselves ❤️
